Back to work? Top tips to beat post Holiday stress.

Why isn't there a magic cure for post holiday stress?
Have you just returned back to the office and already you need another holiday?
"It doesn't have to be like this", said Mike Seddon of Kutchka Limited. "Every year many of us return to our offices after a relaxing holiday only to be completely stressed out within the first few days."
While there isn't a magic cure for this common aliment, there are some positive things you can do to make you return to work as stress free as possible.

1. Take control of your diary.

On your first day back the last thing you need is a long list of meetings on subjects you have long forgotten about or are just not upto speed on. Many people will be queuing with their urgent problems ready to drop onto your desk. Do NOT let them. Before you go on holiday book time on your first day back with key people you want to see and also book time to catch up on emails, voice messages etc.
2. Prioritise those emails!
Don't try to read every email on your first day back. Try to sort them into priority order. For instance sort them based on emails you were sent rather than those you were just copied on. You could also sort them by the name of the person sending the email and then read the emails from those people most important to you first.

3. Don't rush to take it all back
Don't be in a hurry to take back all the tasks you handed over when you went on holiday. Only take the important tasks back on day one and aim to take all the remaining tasks back over the first two or three days.
4. Take a break
Give yourself some free time to relax on your first few days back. Take a full lunch, take a coffee break or even go for a walk. Do anything that will allow you to switch off for a few precious moments.
5. Never work late on your first day back
Do not get trapped by those guilt feelings at all the work you have not been doing and try to catch up by working late on your first day back. This is a sure way to raise your stress levels.
6. and finally
Plan your next holiday to give you something to look forward to.
